Mass Transit, as a band, hides nothing. As influences go they wear them on their sleeve. This quartet from Nashville, Tennessee presents an exciting blend of style and staple, which grounds them as a well-rooted rock band. They strive to formulate rhythms and hooks that catch the ear of average listener, yet maintain a progressive edge that keeps musicians attentive. Combined with their fascination of melodies and classical instrumentation Mass Transit holds nothing back.
They formed in May of 1999 and consist of rhythm section Ryan Acree and Justin Davidson, and the writing team of Scott Munsell on guitar and Justin Smith on vocals and keyboards.
Their live show consists of a long list of original material and selected covers. They currently perform regularly in the Southeastern region including Benefit shows such as the VH-1 Save the Music showcase in Jackson, Mississippi. Mass Transit can also be seen regularly at venues such as Hard Rock Cafe, Nashville or Memphis. With their second release (self titled) due out at the end of 2005. Mass Transit is prepared to demonstrate their abilities as an exciting and entertaining live act.
Will Lerner of listen.com says, "Although the vocalist sings, 'I was locked up and labeled violent,' (Simple Man (2001's Am I Not Invisible)) one has a hard time believing him as the music of Mass Transit is filled with charming pop hooks and a fair amount of anthemic refrains, somewhere between U2's ambitious numbers and Del Amitri's light confections. They throw in some Rootsy guitar grit as well."
